It’s a common understanding that walking offers physical benefits: increased steps in the day, improved circulation, reduced joint pain, a release of endorphins and more. But, there are additional benefits as well. Walks in God’s creation can be spiritually grounding. Walking with others promotes social health and builds community. And in the case of this Sunday, walking helps us be Side by Side in Service with our neighbor in addition to all the other benefits.
This Sunday’s Walk-A-Mile at Silver View Park (2700 County Rd I) supports the Community Support Center, an organization in our community which helps prevent homelessness and solve financial problems. It’s also a chance for all ages to support our neighbors in need, and even pets! Four-legged friends, kids in strollers, youth with friends and adults will all gather to walk and raise money so that the work and ministry of the Community Support Center (CSC) can be sustained.
Every mile walked releases a $10 donation to the CSC, which is another benefit of walking. So invite a friend to meet you at the walk, wear your SHINE shirt, and let our biblical value of loving our neighbor radiate out!
