As a child, I mostly ignored the sermons in church, leaning against my mom and napping. We attended a small country church in Hillman, MN, built by my grandfather. But I still remember one sermon. The pastor was talking about God’s love shining on us; that we could be a clear window, allowing God’s love to shine through us into the world or we could be a bumpy, opaque window like the one behind the altar and not let the sunshine through. At the time one of my favorite Sunday school songs was, “Jesus wants me for a sunbeam to shine for him each day. Ever reflecting his goodness, at home, at school, at play.” Finding ways to show God’s love has been important for me ever since.
This important ministry campaign: Shine: Lighting the way to a brighter future helps me expand that ministry of shining love beyond just my efforts to the joint efforts of all the members of CtK. As a community centered in Christ, we as a group make a much bigger impact. Our light as a congregation is shining brighter each day. There are so many gifts and skills and talents and experiences among us. We shine when we share those gifts. This SHINE ministry campaign will provide the financial resources to make a significant impact on the many ministries which we as a congregation support. Thanks to God for this congregation’s long-term commitment to spread the love of God. Let’s be candles; let’s be sunbeams shining through clear windows; let’s glow and shine and be God’s love for the world.
