Our Local Mission Partner team has selected immigration as our primary focus for the year. Following a meaningful worship introduction last Sunday, we invite you to join us this coming Sunday for our Sunday Adult Learning Time (SALT), where we will continue this important conversation.

As we enter this conversation together, we do so thoughtfully. Too often immigrants are spoken about as if they are the problem, when in reality the challenges connected to immigrants and immigration are rooted in our systems, policies, and the fear-based beliefs and false rhetoric that divide us, not with immigrants themselves. Our discussion will explore how we can better support and welcome our immigrant neighbors. Daily Work ministry, which assists individuals in finding livable-wage employment, finds that 80% of its participants are immigrants or refugees.

On a personal note, I have seen this impact firsthand. At my wife’s long-term care facility, approximately 75% of the dedicated staff providing her with compassionate care were from other countries. Their energy, joy, and kindness provided a profound blessing to our family during her final days.

We look forward to welcoming our guest speakers to share their lived experience this Sunday:

  • Peter Rogness, former Bishop

  • Julie Hoff, Executive Director of Daily Work

  • A community member currently working with Daily Work

In light of current tensions, including recent ICE enforcement actions in Minnesota, our guests will also offer guidance on how we are called to interact with federal officers and support our neighbors during these difficult times.

Please bring your questions as we continue to carry out our mission within our community.
