Last fall when the Care for Creation team was asked by the pastors to dream big and wonder what we would want to see in the future at Christ the King, our boldest answer was a rain garden. We know that having a rain garden will help filter pollutants out of rain water runoff from our parking lot — helping to keep our waterways clean, providing an abundance of beautiful native plants, and a home for pollinators. We have been dreaming of this project for years. It is so exciting to see it start to come to life along 7th Street.

Like most big dreams, this one took a lot of work to realize. Trish Blomquist worked with us on getting grants and detailed plans from Rice Creek Watershed District and Ramsey County to help move this project forward. We were able to get the out-of-pocket price down by volunteering to help with labor for mulching and planting. Finally, we are grateful for the generosity of CtK and the SHINE campaign to cover the remaining funding for this project.

As they say, many hands make light work. The contractor finished their work in July and said we would need to get mulch on the site right away. We sent out a call and volunteers of every age came out to help. I want to personally thank everyone that pitched in to help.

We have another opportunity to help this September.  Mark your calendars to be at outdoor worship September 14 and start putting the plants in the ground that will help filter water during rain events. I'll see you there!
