PURPOSE:

Interserve Ministries, through Associate Pete Erickson, is working with Christ the King at this important place in its lifecycle to do two things:

  1. Manage day-to-day responsible for the creation and maintenance of the youth ministry during this transition AND
  2. Help Christ the King evaluate, create, and vision for the future of the youth and family ministry in its next phase of life.
Congregational systems research is clear that change must come from within an organization, and it is vital that those with a vested interest in this ministry take ownership of decision-making.  Over the next few months a team comprised of parents in this congregation will undertake the good work of

  • Engaging the congregation in naming the past and current culture of youth and family ministry

  • Facilitating listening and assessment opportunities for the congregation to articulate their hopes and dreams for the future of youth and family ministry
  • Using internal and external data to help imagine a ministry model that aligns with the mission, vision, values of Christ the King, AND
  • Defining a staffing model that best engages families and supports the implementation of ministry that serves Christ the Kings mission, vision and values

TIMELINE:

Vision Team Meeting (January 9th at 6:30PM)
This meeting will entail some education on spirit and culture of youth ministry today and process work on the current mission, vision and values of youth ministry at CtK today.

Vision Team Meeting 2: (January 30 at 6:30PM)
This meeting will plan for assessment/listening process. The team will work on questions for congregation learning/listening event and survey(s). There will also planning for conversation with 2 or 3 churches of a similar demographic, size, budget as CtK to discover best practices in the area.

Learning/Listening Event (February 3 at 9:45AM, February 13 at 6:30PM):
One product of the “listening circles” facilitated by council was the dream of greater engagement of youth and families. The Vision Team will facilitate these additional listening events to encourage the congregation to articulate those dreams more specifically. There will be two events for the congregation.

Survey Process: (Mid-end of February)
After the learning events, the vision team will use the feedback to create themes and questions to reach a greater audience of the congregation. More quality data is a key to helping hone in on how to create a model of ministry and staffing that will truly serve the congregation.

Youth and Family Vision Team Update: March 24 at 9:45AM, March 27th at 6:30 PM

Team Meeting 3 Ministry/Staffing Model development & Hiring Process (March-April). This will take all of the feedback, best practices in churches today as well as what's happening in the context of other churches to define a ministry model and staffing model to support the ministry. Finally, there will be a hiring process designed to find the best fit for the congregation in next evolution of youth and family ministry.  THE HOPE: Having a person in place by May.

THE TEAM:

THE VISION TEAM: There has been a great team assembled to do the good work of visioning at CtK.
 It includes:

  • Jen Miller
  • Heather Kosec
  • Annika Larson
