This text speaks volumes to me, and I hope to others about the challenge and worthiness to develop and nurture relationships with others that exhibit servant-like behaviors and a humbleness of thought.
At an early age, and at that time I was not as fully appreciative of this as I am now, my parents set a role model for me that I regularly reflect on as an adult. Mom and Dad were both very committed Christians who lived their lives as best they could every day in spirit and behaviors that are compatible with this text. Their contributions included being sponsors of our church Luther League youth group, serving as director, soloists, and members of the church choir, Women’s Circles, Church Council, Altar Guild, and others. Though they often received accolades and compliments in all of these activities, I witnessed genuine humility and they remained firmly grounded. I have worked to apply that to my own activities and relationships and hope that I have served as somewhat a similar role model for my children and grandchildren.
Let us pray. Dear Lord, thank you for the opportunity to build and nurture relationships with others. Help us to practice servant-like behaviors and humbleness that serve as examples to others. In Jesus name, Amen.
