Verse 28 says, "God chose what is low and despised in the world.” Who are the low and despised today?
When my ancestors came from Norway, in the 1800s, they didn't have much. Although many other immigrants were more despised, some called them "dumb Norwegians". They struggled to learn English.
Today we continue to see many new immigrants despised. But I have learned so much from the new immigrants. I sense God's presence in them. They are caring, willing to learn, willing to share, often among the most joyful people I know.
When we realize that we are all lowly in the presence of God, we don't have to raise ourselves above and despise others. We can all rejoice in being chosen by God through the cross of Jesus!
Let us pray. Dear God, Thank for choosing the lowly and all of us through the cross. Help us to join you in honoring our new immigrants and all the people whom you have created. Amen.
