This is the psalm I come to when I despair. In the shadow of God’s wings I can sing for joy (v7). What else can my soul cling to but to God’s right hand that upholds me? (v8)
It isn’t always easy to have this perspective however. In the midst of ill health, depression, financial difficulty, loss of friendships, whatever it is that clouds my days and yours on this earth here and now. In times like this we have to look back, remembering what God has done for us, often in unexpected ways. In those same ways, God is with us now.
Because of that steadfast love, we can praise God with joyful lips. I’m not sure about you, but I am, admittedly, not always good at remembering to give thanks. This is why we worship, why we set aside time weekly for time to focus on the love and sacrifice made on our behalf during this Lenten season.
Let us pray: God, you have been my help. You hold me up, and I cling to you. Help me to always sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. Amen
