Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.–Confucius
When the solution is simple, God is answering.–Albert Einstein
Romans 10:8-13 is refreshingly clear. To be saved, we need to say that Jesus is Lord and believe that he was raised from the dead for us. That’s it. God offers us the gift of life. Seriously, it’s that simple.
It’s hard to live day-by-day, moment-by-moment in that absolute knowledge of God’s love for us. It’s overwhelming to be given such an amazing gift. Life gets complicated. We have to-do lists. We have difficult, complex relationships. Our schedules are full. We get the flu. We have dirty dishes. We interact with people with different political views. We have driveways to shovel. We have people who depend on us. When we’re weighed down with the gritty reality of life, our ability to accept God’s powerful gift of salvation is blunted.
We need gentle nudges, faithful friends, moments of great joy or sorrow and, on occasion, an outright miracle to bring us back to the simple truth in Romans 10:8-13. God loves us. God saves us. Say it. Believe it.
Let us pray. Dear God, Thank you for your amazing gift of love and life. Embolden us to keep it simple and abide in you. Amen.
