Position Description(15-18 hours per week, Tuesday-Thursday) The role of the Accountant is to pay bills, to track payments, to create budgets and track expenses and income, to create financial reports and maintain financial records.
Working Relationships The Accountant reports directly to the Lead Pastor, and will work closely with two other office staff and have their own office. This person will be part of the Finance Committee at Christ the King (CtK) and communicate with the chair of the Finance Committee and the treasurer of the congregation.
Tasks ● Pay invoices using bill.com and some checks. Communicate with vendors as needed. Collect all necessary W-9 forms. ● Code and enter into accounting system all journal entries, including prepaid expense, accruals and deferred revenues. ● Monitor actual to budget, and assist staff with proper coding. ● Prepare monthly and year end financial reports for the Finance Committee and the Church Council. ● Payroll processing including related benefits. ● Track self-funded, restricted and designated funds – income and expenses. Prepare reports related to these funds as requested. ● Perform cash management including due dates of investments. ● Provide information to committee/team chairpersons as requested. ● Reconcile bank accounts. ● Record contributions and other cash receipts in accounting software. ● Manage electronic giving program. ● Secure necessary approvals for all expenses from staff or committee/ team chairperson or treasurer. ● Coordinate the collection of members’ annual pledges and record in the financial database. ● Work with the Audit Team and provide required information when the Audit is done each year. ● Attend weekly staff meetings on Tuesdays as requested.
Desired Skills and Experience ● Familiar with QuickBooks Online, payroll processing, and Excel spreadsheets. ● Accounting degree or work experience including journal account reconciliations and monthly accrual entries. ● Experience with restricted fund accounting helpful but not required. ● Able to attend Finance Committee meetings on the third Monday of each month from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. (This will be paid work time.) ● Familiarity with Breeze ChMS (congregational management/database system) or similar ChMS preferred. ● Working experience in a church or faith-based setting is preferred. ● Experience in a Mac environment is preferred. ● Able to maintain confidentiality; demonstrate patience and understanding. ● Maintain a positive working relationship through effective, proactive communication with staff members, volunteers, and members of the congregation and community.
Compensation $30-$40/hour, no benefits provided
