Jesus taught us to service others by sharing our time, talents and money to help those in need. It is the mission of Social Ministry to provide care and assistance to those who are in need and continue to offer opportunities to serve in our community.
Current social ministry opportunities
We welcome you to assist at any level to carry out God’s word to the community through action:
Angel Tree Provide Christmas gifts to the children of prison inmates Get involved as: a donor
Blood Drive Host blood and plasma donation events through partnership with the Red Cross. Get involved as: a volunteer or blood donor
Christmas Baskets Provide Christmas dinner for those in need in the community. Get involved as: a delivery volunteer or donor
Community Food Drives Organize two annual food drives benefiting local food shelf. Get involved as: an organizer or donor
Community Support Center Work with other faith communities, nonprofits, businesses, and the school district to prevent homelessness in our community by providing mentoring and emergency assistance. Get involved as: a volunteer or donor
CtK Food Shelf Stock and maintain congregational food shelf for those in immediate need. Get involved as: a donor
Daily Work Counselors provide hands-on help for struggling job seekers from our community find meaningful work. Get involved as: a committee member or donor
Good Samaritan Fund Oversee donations for those in need and assess grant requests. Get involved as: a committee member or donor
Habitat for Humanity Provide a work crew for one week for a Habitat House in Minneapolis. Get involved as: a volunteer leader or crew member
Hearts and Hands Together Create friendships with homebound members, nursing home residents, or those in need of support. Get involved as: a visitor to homebound members
Liberian Partners Support congregation and school in Monrovia, Liberia with school supplies, food, and building improvements. Get involved as: a committee member or donor
Lutheran Social Services (LSS) Support initiatives such as education and fundraising as a member of the LSS Ambassador Program. Get involved as: a committee member
Meals on Wheels Deliver meals to homebound members of the New Brighton community. Get involved as: a delivery volunteer
Refugee and Immigrant Support Provide resettlement support and resource to refugee families arriving from countries with civil unrest. Get involved as: a committee member
SUNNY/Loaves and Fishes Provide free lunches for children and families on weekdays June-August. Get involved as: an organizer or volunteer
Winter Coat Drive Collect winter clothing September-October for those in need in our community. Clothing distributed on the third Saturday in October. Get involved as: an organizer or volunteer

Celebrate Recovery is a biblical and balanced program that helps us overcome our hurts, hang-ups, and habits. It is based on the actual words of Jesus rather than psychological theory. The twelve steps and 8 principles are biblically grounded in scripture.
CtK member, Fred Bergsrud, is a volunteer with the Reading Buddies program at Bel Air Elementary School. There is a need for more volunteers with this program. Volunteers meet with students on Tuesdays from 10:00 – 11:00.
