Serve lunch with SUNNY

Mounds View School District estimates approximately 45 percent of students (900 students) that attend the three schools near CtK are eligible for free or reduced school lunch. SUNNY aims to fill the nutrition gap during the summer.

SUNNY (Serving Up Nutrition Now for Youth) is entering its sixth year of serving children and families free lunches during the summer. This community-based program provides up to six bag lunches a week per person with the hope of assisting families who cannot afford to feed their children three meals a day. There are no restrictions as to who can participate. All one has to do is show up, register and eat.

Volunteers are needed to prepare and distribute lunches throughout the summer. Lunch service begins on June 13 and runs through Aug. 26. To get on the SUNNY volunteer schedule, contact Cheri Aldridge.

SUNNY shines at St. Paul church
Last week, we received word that Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in St. Paul will be offering a summer lunch program modeled after our very own SUNNY program. "Partnerships are important and make for great ministry as the Spirit guides us in reaching out to our community," says Our Redeemer's Intern Pastor Anne Jackson in a recent newsletter.
