Sheryl Bousu to begin pastoral internship at Nokomis Heights

SherylCollageDirector of Children and Family Ministry Sheryl Bousu has announced her resignation effective June 30, in order to complete her journey toward ordained ministry.

Sheryl has been pursuing her Master of Divinity degree at Luther Seminary, discerning whether God was calling her to become a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). She has now completed her seminary course work, been endorsed by the Saint Paul Area Synod, and will soon begin a full-time, year-long pastoral internship at Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. We join Sheryl in the hopeful expectation that she will be approved for ordination in the ELCA next year.

Much to be thankful for
Sheryl wrote this message of thanks to the congregation in the June issue of the Herald:

"As I write my last contribution to the Herald, it is hard to believe that it has been five years since I began ministry at Christ the King. The time has gone by quickly and joyfully. In other ways, it seems I have been a part of CtK much longer than five years as I am at home abiding with all of you.

"Please know as I leave that I have enjoyed working with you to discern where and how God is at work and would have us enter that work. I believe that we have done good ministry together. We have learned more about how to be the children of God of all ages, learning, worshiping, and serving together. I have memories to treasure and much to be thankful for.

"Thank you for your support and caring, for your affirmation of my call to ordained ministry, and for being my sponsoring congregation for candidacy. May God bless each of you and the ministry you will do together. I borrow Paul’s words to say good-bye:

"'I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because you hold me in your heart, for all of you share in God’s grace with me… And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight…” (Philippians 1:3-9)'"

We thank God for Sheryl’s five years of outstanding ministry with children and their families, and we pray God’s blessings for her as she continues her journey towards ordained ministry. A service and reception of Farewell and Godspeed has been planned for Sunday, June 28.
